Not only have we received a country assignment, but we received an island assignment as well! We have been (tentatively) assigned to Kalimantan. Wahoo. As you can see from the pictures above, Kalimantan is in the western middle of Indonesia and there are two different bases on the island of Kalimantan. Tarakan is the larger base in the north east. The pilots on this base fly from the coast into the interior to serve the Christians who live in the mountains. Palangkaraya is in the south part of the island and they fly float planes to serve people who live on the rivers. Most of the new families start in Tarakan but we won’t know until we get closer to the end of language school.

Indonesia is an archipelago of 17,508 islands. If you were to visit one island per day, it would take almost 48 years! It is the largest muslim country and is the fourth most populace nation in the world with over 246.9 million people. Did you know, MAF is the ONLY western mission serving in Kalimantan today! We can’t wait to start our first term later this year.

These are our visa/passport pictures. We finished our training with MAF and now the work begins as we prepare for our first term. We have to get the kids their passports and then apply for our visas. All the while moving out of our house and figuring out what goes and what gets sold/donated/given to friends. Please be praying for our family as these next three weeks are going to be a busy time. We are hoping to make the most of it and get time with friends.

Thank you so much for your love and support. We are excited to be back in Reno for a few weeks. Please call us, write us a letter, text us, email us, facebook message us, or stop us at church if you want to hear more about MAF and the different things we will be up in the next year. Have a great week and God bless.

  1. I have been following your blog since the beginning, It is Amazing how God is working in your family. Good Luck and thank you for sharing your blessed life.

  2. This is awesome guys. So excited for you. Will you be flying a Kodiak or the caravan? Do you have to head to language school first? All fun stuff.

We have finished all our cultural and language stuff here. Working on getting my license converted. Have been on a couple flights but not a lot yet. Just finishing a 3 day trip to the Congo through Uganda and Rwanda. Starting to get some of the route checks done.

Hang out with some of the MAF guys here. Enjoy working with them.

Anyhow love the updates. Great job. Enjoy this time of preparing. I remember it well.

  3. Careful with comments that implies that MAF is the only org in Kalimantan. We are in language school with others who have worked there and are returning. Don’t know details of who they work with but I do know they are not with MAF.
